Arashi's Note:I didn't write this, ShampUsagi (Konnichi wa Pu-chan!) wrote and I borrowed the character Diassa for my fanfic. In fact, ShampUsagi and my fanfics tend to revolve around each other. Here's Diassa's story.

Author's Note: "Voices of the Past" takes place between "Treed" and "Serena Times Two" in the North American series, or between the Alan and Anne and Rini story arcs. This story is based off of the storyline in North America, so a few things might not be accurate with the original version. I'm sorry about that, but as I haven't seen the originals, I can't very well write a fanfic from them! Thank you for your patience, and Email me at ShampUsagi@yahoo.com if you see any other discrepancies. Enjoy!

A Voice From the Past

By: ShampUsagi

"BRRRRRRRIIIIIIIINNNNNNGGGGGG!" The loud telephone bell woke Darien from a sound sleep. He rubbed his eyes and rolled over, cursing whatever had posessed him to put the telephone right next to his bed. He groped around on the night table until he finally located the annoyance. "Hello?" Still half asleep, it took him a moment to recognize Serena's voice on the line.

"Hi, Darien? It's me! I hope I didn't wake you up."

"Actually, yes, you did. What are you doing out of bed before noon on a sunday, Serena?"

"Oh, well," she giggled, "I just wanted to remind you that we're going to meet at the Golden Moon Cat today!"

Even annoyed as he was by the early phone call, Darien couldn't deny her anything. "Of course, Serena, I remember. I'll be there, just let me wake up first." He placed the phone gently back in its reciever, then stood up and stretched. He smiled a little. Was that really the same girl whom, just a few weeks ago, he'd considered an annoying klutz? But then, he reminded himself, he hadn't known about their mysterious pasts together. Darien let his mind drift back to that final battle with the two aliens, Alan and Anne. He and Sailor Moon had fought their hardest, but in the end, only the power of their love had seen them through. Darien shook his head. He'd better hurry, or he'd be late for his date with Serena.

Two hours later, the couple met in front of their favorite restaurant, The Golden Moon Cat. The mascot of the restaurant, perched high on the sign, looked almost exactly like Serena's feline friend, Luna.

As Darien followed his eager girlfriend inside, a blur of motion caught his eyes. He pulled up sharply, looking around quickly, but whatever had been there was gone. A chill ran up his spine and a feeling of foreboding washed over him.

"Muffin?" Serena waved her hand in front of his face, "Are you okay?"

"Ummm. Yes, sure, fine," he replied, "Let's go in." He ushered Serena inside, not seeing the baleful violet eyes glaring at him from around the corner.

After lunch, Darien and Serena went to the local park. They took a rowboat out onto the placid, mirror-like lake. Serena laughed as she dipped her hand in the water, causing a million tiny ripples to spread across the surface of the pond. After the boat, they strolled for a while amidst the gorgeous flower beds. As Serena stopped to examine a lily, Darien stared into the distance, moody and distracted. Serena glanced up at him, concern in her features.

"Muffin?" She asked, "What's wrong?" He looked at her, as if surprised to see another person there.

"What?"

"You haven't spoken four words to me all day." Serena took his hand. "Are you all right?"

"I'm sorry." Darien pressed her hand. "I don't know what's wrong. I just keep getting these feelings....I don't know." Suddenly, he stopped, and pullled Serena onto a side path.

"What?!" she started.

"Shhhhh.." They waited in silence a few moments.

"Darien," Serena finally said, "What's going on?"

"I could have sworn there was someone following us."

"Oh," Serena replied. "Darien, are you sure you feel allright? Maybe we should go home."

The attack came suddenly, from behind.

Further away in the park, Lita and Mina were taking a shortcut home from the shopping center. They had spent the day there, and they were both laughing merrily, loaded down with packages.

"Did you see him, Mina?" Lita was talking excitedly. "He looked just like my old boyfriend!"

"Lita, you think everyone looks like your old boyfriend!" Mina laughed.

"But I'm serious! Did you see that butt?!?! Whoa!"

Mina laughed again. She stopped suddenly. "Did you hear that?"

Lita quieted, and they both heard what seemed to be screams in the distance. The two girls looked at each other, then dropped their packages on the ground and began to run.

A purple ball of energy blasted into Darien and Serena, knocking them both off their feet. Darien pushed himself up painfully. "Serena?" He saw her lying motionless near him. "Serena!" Her eyes were closed, and there was a nasty cut running down her left cheek. She was definitely unconscious. Darien felt a slow, white-hot anger rise in him. How dare they? An attack from behind? Well, he'd make them pay. He turned around to face the attacker.

"Mina, hurry! It sounds like someone's in real trouble!"

"It seems to me like Sailor business!"

"Right! Let's go!" Lita pulled her Jupiter Transformation Pen out of her pocket. "Jupiter Power!"

"Venus Power!"

Electricity surged out and surrounded Lita, while stars formed a curtain around Mina. Both energies solidified around the girls, enclosing each in their own special Sailor Scout uniforms, and moments later, Sailor Venus and Sailor Jupiter stood on the grassy hillside. They both felt the earth shake under them as someone struggled desperately nearby. The two Sailor Scouts took off running again.

Before Darien stood a slight girl, probably about 16. She wore a deep purple robe that perfectly complemented her stunning violet eyes. Her blue-black hair, exactly the same shade as Darien's, was pulled back into a braid that wound around her head twice, then cascaded freely down to the middle of her back. Around her throat she wore a beautiful silver choker, engraved with delicate interlocking spirals and inlaid with a perfectly cut sapphire. Despite the fact that Darien was sure he'd never met her before, he couldn't shake the feeling that she looked familiar. Something in her facial features...

"Hello, Darien." Her voice was soft and light, with a musical lilt to it that reminded him of bells.

"Who are you?" He demanded angrily, "And why did you attack us?" He reached into his jacket pocket for his rose.

"You mean, you don't remember me?" Her eyebrows arched inquisitively. "I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. After all, once you met that princess," she sniffed haughtily in Serena's direction, "You hardly remembered any of us back on Earth. "

"What are you talking about?!" Darien pulled out his rose and whipped it at the young attacker. His anger lent him incredible strength. The girl waved arrogantly, and it burst into flame in midair leaving nothing but ash by the time it reached her. Darien stood, astonished. No-one had ever...

"Who are you?"

She laughed evilly. "You've grown weak in all these years," she taunted him. She turned to the side and glanced up at him through narrowed eyes, a cruel smile playing on her lips. "Brother."

"What?" Darien whispered. It felt like his own heart was choking him.

"You heard me. I am Diassa, the sister you betrayed so long ago."

Darien sank to the ground, confusion and recollection overwhelming him.

"Yes." She knelt in front of him, hissing the words at him. "A thousand years ago, in this very spot, stood the palace of Earth. I waited here for you. I waited here through Queen Beryl's countless attacks during the war. I waited, and I saw horrors you could never imagine. I saw our own parents killed by Queen Beryl's hand. And then, I was captured by Queen Beryl's forces, and forced to fight against my own people. My own people, Darien! I managed to escape when Queen Serenity trapped everyone else in the crystal, but my escape was not without a price. That price was the loneliness of a millenium, living alone in the universe until people once again inhabited our solar system.

"And where were you, brother? Where were you to keep the oath you had sworn to protect the Earth kingdom, and me, from Beryl's army? You were on the moon, protecting a kingdom that wasn't even yours. You deserted us when we needed you the most. You betrayed us! Jedite, Neflite, Zoicite, Malachite, even Arashi, where are they all now? They're dead, brother, and its all because of you. They were once your best friends, but you left them in Beryl's clutches, just like you left me."

Memories flooded into Darien's mind, memories from a thousand years ago. Jedite, Neflite, Zoicite, Malachite, they had been his best friends! They had been captured and brainwashed by Queen Beryl. He felt horror rise in heart as he remembered how he had contributed to their deaths.

"I- I didn't know..." He said softly.

Diassa ignored him. "So it was," she said, "I am the only survivor. I waited these long millenia with revenge in my heart, knowing my chance would come. And it has."

"Millenia? But... but... you haven't changed at all, you're still just sixteen!"

"Hmm, yes. I learned a great many things in the years you were away. Not a fifth of my power now, of course, then I could have saved the Earth all by myself. But one thing I did learn was the secret of my parentage, which means I will never grow any older than I am right now."

"Parentage? But we have the same parents!"

"So you think. However," she purred, standing up over Darien, a lavender flame springing into being in her hand, "I can sense that we're going to have some Scout company very soon. We'll just have our little rendez-vous another time. Keep an eye on your back, brother dear."

Jupiter and Venus burst into the clearing, just as Diassa disappered. Darien sat on the ground, pale and shocked.

"Serena? Serena?" Venus shook Serena's unmoving body. "Can you hear me?"

"Hmmm? Huh?" Serena mumbled.

Jupiter helped Darien to his feet. "Darien," she questioned him, "Who was that?"

"Someone I shouldn't have forgotten," he replied.

"I heard her call you her brother. Is that true?"

"Yes," he replied, no emotion in his voice. He suddenly picked his head up. "Serena! Is she okay?"

"She'll be fine," Venus reported, "she just needs a little rest."

"I'll take her home." Darien scooped Serena tenderly into his arms. She leaned her head agianst his chest. "Darien," she mumbled. He turned to go.

Venus and Jupiter looked at each other, thoroughly confused. "Darien, wait!" Venus intercepted him. "We're having a scout meeting tommorow. Would you come? It's at three o'clock at the Cherry Hill Temple."

"All right," Darien replied, "I'll be there."

In a house at the heart of the city, Diassa watched her brother carry the unconcious princess home. She touched his image, almost tenderly.

"Once," she told it, "I loved you more than anything. Why did you have to betray me?" Suddenly, the amythest at her throat flared a brilliant violet. She pulled away from the mirror, her hand curling into a fist, the slow rage she had felt for over a thousand years building in her chest once more. "I'll never forgive you for what you've done to me!" The fist shattered through the glass. The hundreds of shards, some touched with blood, fell to the floor. The only thing they reflected now was a sobbing young girl.

Raye chased a giggling Serena around the temple courtyard. "Give it back! You hear me? You are toast, Serena!"

"You have to catch me first!" Serena shouted back.

"Raye, Serena, stop it! This is serious!" Amy's voice was scarcely heard above the hubub. Suddenly, Serena tripped, and the comic book she had been holding flew across the courtyard. Raye dived after it and managed to catch it just before it reached the ground.

"That'll teach you, Serena!" She laughed.

"Owie, owie owie," said Serena from the ground.

"Are you two finished now?" Luna's voice held a large dose of annoyance. "Darien could be in serious danger!"

"All right." Raye sat down next to Amy on the temple steps. "What's going on?"

"I don't really know," Luna said, "Lita and Mina know more of the story than I do. From what I heard, it seems there is an extremely powerful person after Darien."

Serena joined them on the steps. "Very powerful," she agreed. "I wish we knew what she was after."

Lita, Mina, and Artemis arrived in the courtyard. Raye got up to greet them. "Hey guys! So what's the story?"

"We don't really know that much," Lita seated herself next to Serena on the steps. "All we know is we heard someone fighting, and when we got there, we saw Darien talking to some girl who said she was his sister from a thousand years ago. Just before we reached them, she disappeared."

"His sister?!"

"Mmm-hmmm." Mina nodded. "She was dressed in purple, and seemed very powerful. I invited Darien to the meeting today. Maybe he'll be able to explain all this."

Luna and Artemis looked at each other. Sister, they both wondered, could it be...?

Tuxedo Mask raced across the rooftops. He leaped gracefully from building to building, ignoring the crowded streets below him. Finally, he stopped and looked behind him. Whatever it was that he thought had been following him was gone now, if it had ever been there. "You're getting paranoid," he told himself. Still, he couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching him. He shook his head to clear it. "I'd better get to the temple soon," he thought, "I'm already late as it is." Just as he turned to go, Tuxedo felt something whiz by his ear and thump into the rooftop behind him. He whirled around and found a small white crystal embedded in the roofing. He pried it out and held it up to inspect it in the light. It was about 3 inches long, and very sharp. He pocketed the crystal to study more later and promptly forgot about it.

Fifteen minutes later, he arrived at the Cherry Hill Temple. All of the scouts, as well as their guardians, were already gathered. They greeted him carefully.

"I suppose," he said before any of them could speak, "You want to know what's going on." Seven heads nodded in agreement. So, Darien related to them the story of Diassa and the Earth Kingdom, and how he had had to make the most difficult choce of his life and why, in the end, he had chosen as he did.

"I don't think," he concluded, "That Diassa is ever going to understand why I chose the path I did. All she knows is that I betrayed her. And my friends." His voice became rough with emotion."

"But Darien," Serena touched his elbow, "You didn't know. Neither did we. If we had known, maybe we could have saved them, but maybe it was already too late."

Darien nodded. "Maybe. But I still can't help feeling responsible." He put his hand over Serena's. "There is something that confuses me though. Diassa said that she had learned the secret of our parentage. I keep wondering what she meant. It was almost like she was implying we didn't have the same parents."

Artemis coughed, loudly. "Well, actually..."

"What is it, Artemis?" Mina asked, "Do you know what she meant?"

Artemis looked at Luna. "You should probably tell them, Luna. After all, you were there when it happened."

Luna nodded. She moved to the front of the group of scouts, her tail ticking nervously. "This isn't easy for me," she began, "But you have right to know the truth. The truth about Diassa, and about your father, Serena."

"What?" Serena gasped, "Daddy? But..."

"Not your Earthly parent, Serena. The Prince-Consort of the Moon, Queen Serenity's husband." Luna closed her eyes, and began her tale.

"In the first year of Queen Serenity's reign, just after the Ancient Evil had been destroyed and she had taken me to be her personal advisor, but had not yet found Artemis, she fell in love with a member of what was then a very powerful race of people on Earth, the Elves. Elves are immortal, They have magic and stay young and beautiful forever, although they can be killed, by either weapons or magic. Most of them were killed by Queen Beryl's forces, but that was later.

"Queen Serenity's love, Salenmas, was at first not accepted in the Moon Court because of his Earthly heritage. People from Earth back then were considered commoners, outsiders. But oh, Salenmas was the charming one," Luna chuckled slightly, "And he soon had the entire court eating out of the palm of his hand. Serenity and Salenmas' wedding was the biggest, most gala event in the entire Silver Millenium. People came from the farthest reaches of the universe, just to catch a glimpse of the happy couple. The dancing and feasting went on for days.

"The two seemed to have the idyllic marriage, but their peace didn't last. One day, it was uncovered that Salenmas was having an affair with the Queen of Jupiter, Akari."

"What?!" Lita and Serena both shrieked.

"You're kidding!" Amy looked shocked. Darien stood silently, a troubled look on his face.

"But what did Queen Serenity do?" asked Mina.

"Queen Serenity was, of course, heartbroken. She banished the two to the edges of the universe and took the young princess, Lita, to live with her on the moon. It was later discovered that Akari had been pregnant, and had given birth to twins just before she was banshed. The first, Diassa, was taken in by the Queen of Earth, Akari's cousin. Darien and Diassa were raised together, as brother and sister. No-one knows what happened to the other twin."

"But," Serena interrupted, "If Salenmas was Queen Serenity's husband, wouldn't that mean he was also..."

"Your father. Yes, he was."

"But that would mean that Diassa and I are half sisters!"

"Indeed." Luna nodded.

Lita broke in. "But what happened to Akari and Salenmas?"

"Well." Luna curled her tail around herself tightly, as if for warmth. "Queen Serenity allowed Akari to visit her daughter on the moon occaisionally. On one of these visits, she was apparently murdered. Salenmas, when he found his lover had been killed, threw himself off a balcony. There was a lot of mystery surrounding his death, though, because the body disappeared later. Queen Serenity felt she was to blame, and never forgave herself, and decreed the names of the tragic pair were never to be spoken in her presence again."

Mina gasped. "That's horrible!"

Luna nodded. "Even so, we thought you should know the story. I'm sorry if it upset you. It is becuase of Salenmas' Elven blood that Diassa will remain eternally young, and also where she gets her incredible powers."

The scouts all looked at each other in trepidation, but none of them voiced the thought that was running through their minds. Never mind hurting her, did they have enough power to defend themselves from her?

Serena made her way home from school the next day, her friend Molly keeping close by her side. "Are you sure you're all right Serena?" she asked, concerned. "You haven't said two words all day! And you didn't eat your lunch. That's not like you."

"Oh, I'm all right, Moll. Just worried, I guess." "About what?"

"Um, nothing, really." Suddenly, Serena stopped short on the sidewalk. Molly pulled up beside her.

"What is it? What's the matter?" Serena only pointed to a dark side alley. "Serena, what? I don't see anything!" A low growl sounded from the inky blackness of the entrance to the alley. A huge dog's head emerged from the shadows, its glaring red eyes focused directly on Serena. Then another head appeared from the darkness, then another. "Rabid dogs!" Molly screamed. Then a shaft of light fell across its body and Serena felt her gorge rise as she realized it was not a pack of dogs blocking the sidewalk, but a single, huge dog with three heads.

Molly fainted across the sidewalk. The dog stepped forward, slavering jaws open wide to make a killing bite. Serena snapped herself out of her trance and dashed forward to protect her friend.

"Stop right there!" She yelled at the enormous hound. "I'm not going to let you hurt my friend! Moon Crystal Power!" Serena summoned the power of the Moon and transformed into Sailor Moon. The dog stood, briefly transfixed by the flashing lights of Serena's transformation.

"I am Sailor Moon! And on behalf of the Moon, I fight for love and justice! I will protect my friends and you, ugly, are about to get moondusted!" The dog looked at her, completely unimpressed, and lunged forward. Serena threw herself to the ground in order to avoid the hound's triple set of slashing teeth. The dog stopped and turned itself around to aim at Sailor Moon again.

"Mars Firebird Strike!!" From nowhere came a flaming bird. It attacked the dog, and set the fur on its back alight. The dog rolled into the street, narrowly missing crushing Sailor Moon.

"Sailor Mars!" Serena looked up at the awning where the black-haired sailor scout stood.

"We're all here!" Luna and Artemis jumped down from the nearby rooftop, followed by the other scouts.

"Look out," Mercury warned, "it's coming back!" She was right. The three-headed hound lunged towards them hate and fury in its all too intelligent eyes.

"Jupiter Thunder Dragon!!" Jupiter realeased her dragon made entirely of electricity. It passed right around the dog, parting like water. The dog crouched down, and suddenly, all the scouts were blinded by a flash of violet light.

When the light cleared, Jupiter, Mars, Mercury and Venus found themselves alone, with Sailor Moon, Luna, and Artemis nowhere in sight. They were in a stone cell, that had no doors or windows. The only light came from a bare bulb in the ceiling. Jupiter checked for weak spaces in the stones while Mercury analyzed the room with her computer.

Mars sat down in the middle of the floor. She folded her hands and rested her head in them. "I felt..." she began.

"What is it?" Venus asked.

Mars shook her head. "I don't know. When we were near that dog, I felt its evil. But the presence behind it...the one that was controlling it... Well, that presence didn't feel evil at all. No, that's not right," she corrected herself, "It was like it was good, but with a strong layer of evil sealing it in."

Jupiter gave up her fruitless prowling of the walls and stood by Mars. "That's odd," she said. "Considering what Luna and Darien told us, do you suppose its possible that Diassa might be still good, but still under some sort of spell by Queen Beryl?"

"Is that possible?" Venus asked, "Since Beryl's dead?"

Mars shook her head again. "I don't know. I suppose it is possible, if Queen Beryl used some sort of focus object for the spell. That would never be broken, even at death."

"Bad news." Mercury's visor disappeared. "It appears we're trapped in here. The walls are surrounded by solid stone. The only way in or out is through that." She pointed at the wire that led away from the bulb and through the wall.

Jupiter slammed her fist against the wall. "What do we do now?!"

"What can we do?" Mercury asked. "We have to wait."

* * *

Diassa stood with her hands spread in front of her, concentrating her energy. She focused it all into the tiny shard of crystal that Darien had so carelessly put in his pocket and then forgotten about. "Come to me," she whispered, "I, your maker, call you."

The crystal started to hum in response. Darien looked down at his pocket. "What th-?" Suddenly, his apartment seemed to melt and twist, the familiar walls becoming something else entirely. When they had stopped moving, he found himself in a dark hall. There was a table at one end where a shadowy figure was seated. "Hey!" He called out, "Who are you? How did I get here?"

The figure let out a low laugh. "Don't you recognize it? I modeled it after the grand hall of the Earth Palace. Before it was smashed to so much rubble, of course."

Darien looked closely at his surroundings. There was something almost familiar here. He remembered sunlit afternoons here, chasing motes of dust across the hall with a laughing, black-haired young girl. Darien clutched his head as memories of his past life threatened to overwhelm him. Through his fingers, he suddenly noticed one thing that was different about this room from the one he remembered. No light. The grand hall of the Earth Palace had had huge arched windows on either side of the hall, one facing east, one facing west, with enormous skylights in the ceiling as well, so the hall was always filled with natural sunlight. This hall had no windows whatsoever, the only light coming from a candle set in a niche in the wall.

The figure at the table shifted slightly. "So. I see you do remember it."

"Diassa," Darien glared at where his sister was seated. "Why do you keep doing this? Nothing has ever been gained by revenge. I don't want to fight you. Can't you forgive me for what happened over a thousand years ago? I have suffered for it too."

Diassa stood up, angrily knocking the table over. "Forgive?! I'm supposed to forgive you for leaving me alone to die?!"

Darien fumbled for words. "Its- its not like that! There was noth- you don't understand!"

"I know exactly what it's like! You left me, you left your entire planet here to either die or be brainwashed, just so you could go protect your pretty little princess!" Diassa's eyes flashed with anger. "Well, now my turn has come. I will destroy everything you hold dear, and then, I will destroy you." She guestured, and the entire hall was suddenly filled with light. In the center of the hall, there was a tall wooden pole.

"No! Serena!" Darien rushed forward to where Sailor Moon stood tied to the pole. As he approached, he saw it was not rope that secured his love, but barbed wire. Sailor Moon turned her head towards him. Even that small movement caused the wire to bite painfully into her skin. "Darien," she whispered, weak from pain.

Suddenly, Darien was slammed back from an invisible forcefield. "Serena!" he pounded his fists futilely against the barrier. Diassa looked on, smiling cruelly.

"I took the liberty of inviting Princess Serenity here to join us. It wasn't really hard. The rest of the scouts are in a cell around here, awaiting their fate, which, I can assure you, will be painful. And you, brother, will get to watch every one." She put her hand over her mouth and laughed.

Darien whipped around. His vision clouded by rage, he charged. Diassa made an elegant movement and was all the way across the room. Darien slammed into the hard stone wall.

"Don't make me laugh," Diassa shouted scarcastically, "What have you been doing all these years, getting weak? You know, I think I have a friend that you should meet. The princess, too, of course." Diassa raised her hands, and a low, rumbling sound was heard from beneath the stones of the hall. A fissure formed in the floor, right near where Serena stood tied. She screamed, and struggled to get away, the barbed wire tearing her skin and sending trickles of blood down her body.

"Diassa!" Darien screamed, "Don't do this! Please, god, no! You don't understand!"

"Oh, I think I understand everything." Diassa scowled at him, her eyes full of the purest hatred... and something else. Darien recognized the look in her eyes. It looked, almost as if... she were afraid. Afraid she didn't understand, afraid that she didn't even know why she was doing this.

Abruptly, the fissure in the floor grew wider. Red steam escaped through, with the fearsome sound of something, something huge, breathing heavily. Darien gathered himself together. Maybe his old sister was still in there, maybe if he could just pierce the shell of hatred around her heart, he could save her from what she had become. Save her, as he hadn't been able to save his friends.

"No," he said to her, "You don't understand. You think I went to the moon solely to protect the princess. That isn't true!"

"What?" The gap stopped widening as Darien caught Diassa's attention.

"It's not true," he repeated. "I went to Earth first, to look for you. You remember, I was on the moon on a diplomatic mission? Well I left as soon as I heard Earth was in danger. When I got here, everyone was already either dead or brainwashed. I searched and searched, but I couldn't find you. I returned to the moon, in the vain hope you had fled there for safety. All I found was the Moon Kingdom, utterly unprepared for an all-out war. I alerted Queen Serenity, and I was going to come back and look one last time for you, but Queen Beryl attacked. The Princess and I both died in the attack."

Diassa's eyes grew wide. Then the amythest at her throat flashed, and she resumed her look of cold hatred. "You're lying." Diassa said it simply and coldly, shattering Darien's heart. The fissure opened further, revealing the tips of a pair of blood-colored horns. Serena moaned in terror.

"Serena, no!" Darien battered against the invisible barrier. Slowly, almost imperceptibly, it began to give. He hit harder, almost dislocating his shoulder. Diassa, he noticed, was no longer laughing. The barrier shattered into a million invisible shards.

"My wall!" Diassa cried, "Impossible!" Darien stumbled across the floor to where Serena was tied to the pole. He hurridly released her and she collapsed, sobbing, into his arms. From behind them, there came a sound like the very earth being torn apart. Slowly, he turned around. He came face to face with a demon. It was at least twelve feet tall, and grey, the grey of the clouds just before a storm breaks. It had horns curving backwards over its head that were the color of dried blood. Its eyes were filled with a malevolence beyond huamn comprehension. It roared, and the floor, already unstable from the open fissure, cracked right down the middle. Darien managed to leap to one side, dragging Serena with him, but Diassa was completely unprepared. She went down, just managing to grab onto one edge.

"Diassa!" Darien shouted. He bolted to where she was clinging on for dear life. Sailor Moon followed, limping. Darien lowered a hand to his sister. "Grab hold of my hand!"

"So you can dump me in the abyss? I don't think so!" Diassa clawed her way a little up the sheer wall of the crevice.

"Please Diassa, trust me!"

Diassa looked up at him for a long moment. The centuries of hatred faded out of her mind for a time, and she remembered when she had been young and free, Darien there beside her, looking at the moon as he told her about his future bride, the princess of the moon. She remembered him vowing to protect her, no matter what, and chasing sparrows in the meadows in summertime. She remembered that he would never break a vow, no matter what, unless he had no other choice. And then, just for a moment, she believed everything he had said to her.

Hesitatingly, Diassa reached up and grabbed Darien's hand. He pulled her up and out of the fissure. She held tightly onto his hand for a moment. "Darien," She whispered, what's happened to me?"

"I don't know, Diassa, But I promise, we'll find out." Suddenly, something clicked in Darien's brain. He remembered that Diassa had told him that she had been brainwashed by Queen Beryl. She had said that she escaped being trapped in the crystal, but what if Beryl's spell was still working? He took a closer look at the amythest that was mounted on the silver choker around her throat. Now that he looked, it didn't appear that there was any way to take the necklace off at all. That in itself was suspicious, but then he'd also seen it flash when Diassa had showed a sign of returning to her old self.

The demon charged them, bellowing its rage. Darien dove to the side, pulling Diassa with him.

"Let go of me!" Diassa yanked her hand out of his grasp. "Demon, finish them!"

"Diassa! Listen to me!" Darien took her shoulder and spun her around to face him. "This isn't you! I remember you how you used to be, and this isn't it! Don't you remember? Please Diassa! You may not be my sister by blood, but you are my sister and I still love you!"

Darien's words seemed to hit Diassa at the core. She bent over, the stone at her throat sending jolts of pain directly into her brain. "S-stop it!" she screamed. "Just stop it!"

The demon paused for a moment and looked down at the three of them. It seemed to be gathering its energy about itself. It began to speak, chanting words in an unfamiliar language. The demon's voice sounded low and gravelly, like the rocks that grind together to cause an earthquake.

"Serena!" Darien pulled Serena to him. "Look out!" Diassa stayed hunched over, the white hot fire in her mind distracting her from all else.

"Diassa!" Darien cried. Diassa glanced up suddenly, eyes wide with fear. "Not that spell," she whispered, as she heard the voice of the demon, "No, it can't be that!"

The demon placed its claw-tipped hands together in front of it. The three could feel tension growing in the air, like static before a bolt of lightning strikes.

"NO!" Diassa screamed. As the demon unleashed an enormous blast of power at the three of them, Diassa threw herself in front of Darien and Serena. Her own hands glowed with amythest fire as she created a shield to hold back the demon's blast. The ray of energy broke through the shield easily and surrounded Diassa. Darien and Serena watched in amazement as the silver choker around her throat melted away and the amythest disappeared with a flash, releasing her at last from the spell she had been under, giving her back her will, and her full powers. Her hands began to glow again and the demon's power was forced away from her.

"Brother," Diassa said without turning around. "Take the princess and go. I can destroy this demon, but it's going to take everything I have and nothing here will survive. I'll transport the scouts out as well."

"I'm not going to leave you!" Darien yelled.

Diassa shook her head. "No choice," she said. "It's too powerful. I can't control it. Please find it in your heart to forgive me for what I've done, someday." Darien felt his vision beginning to blur as Diassa activated a teleportation spell. He wrapped his arms tighter around Serena. Diassa turned around to face him one last time. Her eyes were filled with tears. "I'm sorry, brother," she said.

The enitre scene faded even more, being replaced gradually with a scene of a grassy hillside, the scouts standing there in amazement. "Diassa!" Darien shouted. The last thing Darien saw was Diassa's face, tear streaked but determined, as she released a white hot energy that surrounded her and the demon, making it too bright to see.

"Goodbye." Darien heard Diassa's voice, speaking to him as if from a great distance as the spell solidified around him and Serena,

"I love you too, my brother."
